You Need Us - We Need You
The Anne Arundel Retired School Personnel Association was formed in 1940 by five retired teachers and named the Anne Arundel Retired Teachers Association. The Superintendent of Schools at the time, George Fox, advised them to organize and work for improvements in the state retirement system for retired educators. Retirement checks at that time were less than $50 per month. Today, the main objective of AARSPA is to protect our retirement pensions.
Over the years our membership has grown to over 1900 members. In May of 2007,the association was renamed The Anne Arundel Retired School Personnel Association. All employees retiring from the Board of Education are eligible for membership. Other objectives of the association, in addition to pension protection, include: maintaining health benefits, community services, supporting local schools, volunteering and providing information for successful retirement living to our members.
